Quality Workbench document control software system requirements - Quality Workbench document control software is a complete ISO 9000 software solution for professionals, providing audit trail, corrective action and other vital quality assurance standards.

Quality Workbench Professional uses the Borland InterBase Server the database. This is a separate product supplied by IdeaGen as part of Quality Workbench Professional. The current version is 5.6 for Microsoft Windows NT/2000. It is installed onto a server prior to installing Quality Workbench Professional.

We strongly recommend a separate server for Quality Workbench Professional. If you do not use a separate server, the performance will be severely affected by other processes the server is running. There may be inter-operability issues if you ignore this advice. Users do NOT require authentication to the InterBase Server to connect to the databases, therefore a 5 User NT License will be sufficient for database connections.

Server software installation requirements

Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP Server

  • Supported Versions: Windows NT with Service Pack 5 or higher.
Windows 2000 Server users with Service Pack 2.
  • Supported Protocols: TCP/IP
  • Hardware (minimum): PC Pentium PII 300Mhz as absolute minimum. 128Mb RAM, 4.0Gb or similar HDD, Network Card, Backup Device.
  • Hardware (recommended): PC Pentium PIII 600MHz, 256Mb RAM, 20 Gb HDD, Network Card. Backup Device.
  • 50MB hard drive space for software plus 12 MB hard drive space for each empty database. We recommend 50-100MB for each database.

Note: The hardware specification is a guide. Obviously as a general rule, a better specification machine used will result in better performance.

Client installation requirements

Windows 98/Windows NT Workstation (4.x)/Windows 2000/Windows XP

  • Supported Protocols: TCP/IP for connection InterBase Installation.
IPX/SPX if using a Netware server for the shared data
  • Installation: Software is currently supplied on CD. It is installed from the Workbench server. Administrator Access is required for this.
  • Hardware (minimum): Pentium P300 as a minimum - 64Mb RAM, 500MB or similar HDD. Network Card.
  • Hardware (recommended): PC Pentium PIII800MHz, 128Mb RAM, 10Gb HDD.
    Network Card.

* Protocol Support: Clients using TCP/IP must have a compliant Windows TCP/IP stack and WINSOCK support. Windows 98/NT/2000/XP can support multiple protocols. This is important if you are using a different server for the InterBase server than the Shared Area. Clients are strongly advised to use the UNC1 convention rather than drive mappings. This will require the ability of a client to support the use of a UNC.

(UNC = Universal/Uniform Naming Convention - \\Computername\Sharename)

Web access

  • Server Components installed, configured and working
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, with IIS installed on the same server as the Workbench Server Software
  • Windows 98/NT/Win 2000 Workstations with Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape 4.0 or higher installed (Note: Netscape does not support the Java plugin for MS Word Macro Support)

Your Intranet should be configured and working, so that users' have the ability to access the IntraVista Web Server and appropriate URL's (e.g. www.myserver.co.uk).

You will need access to the Web Server at an administrative level to install the software and configure the appropriate Registry entries.

Local clients must have their browsers configured to allow creation of a cookie. In order for your browsers to take advantage of our new JAVA macro applet–you must configure the browsers to accept the IntraVista server as a trusted site.

Unlike the Windows client software, which obtains a license and retains it for the duration of the user's active session, the Web Module uses a standard Internet Browser. Due to the 'stateless' nature of a browser, it is not possible for the server to detect if the user's session has been completed successfully, or crashed, or if he or she is still using the software but has gone to lunch. This would obviously use up legitimate licensed connections to Workbench very rapidly. To prevent this happening, the License manager service must be run on the Workbench Server. This will actively enforce a strict, preset timeout value if the session is inactive longer than that value, and recycle the license back into the license pool for use by other users.

Windows character set support

The product supports the Windows Code Page 1252 Character set. Languages that use this character set are:
