SP - Tracking Cpk as an ongoing measure

Revision Date: 2006-03-30

Problem:

How can I track Cpk as an ongoing measure; say from month-to-month or work order to work order? I have tried my hand at running a histogram over a particular interval and putting the resulting Cpk value into a second chart in SQCpack, but this is terribly time consuming. Is there a more efficient way of doing this?

Solution:

Any descriptive or capability statistic can be easily extracted from many groups by using the Report and Report Template in SQCpack with a just a few mouse clicks. Here are some general steps that you can follow.

1. Create a report template that lists the columns that you (or your customer) want to be used in a summary chart or report. (For example, the report template would contain the name of the characteristic, the Cpk value, sigma, etc.)

2. Create a report that lists the characteristics you want use to create the Cpk chart or report from.

3. In this particular case, where the need is to track Cpk from month-to-month or from work order to work order, then Grouping should be used. Once grouping is selected, you can determine if the report will be grouped by a Date identifier and then select the grouping interval such as week, month, quarter, etc.

4. Then you can save the report to a file.

5. The result, Cpk, can then be easily copied and pasted into a Monthly Cpk Summary group and the chart can be e-mailed or printed for the customer.
