SP: Why did my imported dates come into SQCpack as text identifiers?

Revision Date: 2005-09-12

Problem:

When I imported an ASCII file into SQCpack, my dates are listed as text IDs instead of dates.

Solution:

When you create a new group through the import function, SQCpack for Windows does not differentiate between the types of identifiers. To do this you need to create the group first, then import the data. To do this:

1. Create a group with identifiers, including the date identifier. To do this:

  A. From the Variables, Attributes, or Pareto Group window, select Create Group.

  B. Enter a name from the group and a description (if desired).

  C. For Variables and Attributes data, you will need to create at least one characteristic. Select Create to do this.

  D. Before selecting OK from the Group window to finish creating the new group, select the Group IDs button

  E. Type a name for each identifier in the Identifier Name column. For the date ID, enter Date.

  F. Select the type identifier for each identifier. For date, select Date. Select OK, when you have finished setting up identifiers.

  G. When you have finished creating the group, select OK to return to the Groups window.

2. To append data to this group:

  A. Open the File Menu and select Import.

  B. Select Custom Import from Text. The Import Destination window will open.

  C. Highlight the name of the group that you created for this data. Select OK. the Import Data Source window will open.

  D. Select the source of data and, if necessary, the space delimiter. Select OK. The Import Definition window will open.

  E. Map the identifiers, characteristics, and observations to the fields that you defined.

  F. Select Do Import.
