SP: SQCpack Password Reset

Revision Date: 2005-11-04

Problem:

The password on the SQCpack SQU file has been forgotten.

Passwords that are set on files are very important. If a password is set on a file and the password is lost, you cannot get back into the system.

Solution:

Currently, there is only one solution to this problem. (The solution depends upon whether there is a Password database.)  In the future, we plan to have additional tools to get the customers up and running again.

1. A password that is forgotten on an SQU file without a Password database.

  • Locate the SQU file that was being used and take note of the name and path.

Note: This is an important step because later we will need to recreate another SQU file that’s named exactly the same as this one.

2. Delete or rename the SQU file.

3. Create a new SQU file. This can be done either by using another computer or by creating a new one by clicking File > Utilities > New global user database.

  • Name this with the same name as the prior SQU.
  • Leave the password box unchecked.

4. Place the new SQU file into the folder where we started.

5. At this point, you should be able to get into the SQU file and in turn SQCpack.

  • The SQD password could be protected as well. You will need this password to get into your database.

6. The Password database (SQP) file no longer works and/or passwords are forgotten on an SQU file.

The Password database stores passwords for SQU/SQD files. Although it’s convenient, it can quit working. It’s very important to have the passwords somewhere if something were to happen.

  • To effectively use a password database, the password file (SQP) needs to remain intact.
  • The name and path of the password file needs to remain the same. If the name or path changes, the file will no longer enter the passwords for you. After this point, you will need to have the SQU/SQD passwords.

7. Once the Passwords file’s path/name has changed, the whole system will be reset.

8. Do Step 1 (above) to reset the SQU password.

9. If you’ve forgotten the password of the SQD file, call PQ Systems.
