Bytes and pieces:

  • Scorecard progress: The Commonwealth Fund report on state health system performance showed that scorecard covered areas such as Access and Affordability, Prevention and Treatment, Potentially Avoidable Hospital Use and Cost, and Health Lives (public health measures) have improved under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Recall epidemic? While automotive firms have been in the news with recalls of thousands of cars for safety and other issues, the food industry continues to face quality breakdowns as well. A Michigan firm has had to recall 1.8 million pounds of beef over E.Coli contamination.
  • Calibrating giant collections: The 2nd Maintenance Squadron's Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier, Louisiana, calibrates and maintains an inventory of more than 6,700 pieces of equipment for Team Barksdale. Meeting standards of accuracy and calibration demands tools.
