Quality Quiz:Professor Cleary
Another quiz from Professor Cleary

Nadha Klu, Xcelent Xtrusion Company quality manager, oversees, as we noted last month, an assembly line producing parts for Zero Defects Company.

Nadha instructs his assistant, Justin Kase, to prepare an X-bar and R chart on a critical dimension of the assembly, in order to demonstrate the quality that the company produces in its products. Justin prepares a chart (below) that shows an out-of-control point on January 10. To determine what has caused this condition, Nadha examines the chart and questions the operators.

As he discovers, the out-of-control situation was caused by a lack of proper lubrication of one section of the assembly, so Nadha takes action immediately to assure that the lubrication process is consistently applied for this part, to avoid an out-of-control situation in the future.

Can Nadha Klu's actions be considered an improvement in the system?

a) Yes

b) No
