The evolution of the minimum wage
Labor Day, which focuses on the US work force, was created in 1882 to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all grandeur we behold," according to union leader Peter McGuire. This chart shows the evolution of the minimum wage for hourly workers in real dollars since 1955.
