Quality Quiz:
Last month, we watched as Armand A. Legge learned something new about the central limit theorem. Now that he’s an expert on the concept, he has asked his quality manager, Al A. Bord, to take a random sample of 1,000 bottles of the company’s newest window cleaning solution, “Wipe Out,” and check to make sure that the caps have been put on properly.
Al’s survey finds that only 100 of the caps are actually screwed on tightly and are aligned properly. He goes to Armand and asks if they can extrapolate from this data to say that the next 1,000 bottles are also likely to have 100 defective caps.
What should Armand’s response be?
a) Yes.
b) No.
