Gages? Training options support measurement systems analysis.
Gages and other measurement devices to assure uniform output and reduce variability are key ingredients of organizations’ quality programs. But getting the most out of this critical tool depends both on knowing how to use gages properly and assuring the accuracy of the measurement system itself. Without proper gage use or accurate equipment, the use of gages, calipers, and other devices adds nothing to the quality of products, and can in fact undermine improvement efforts. If gages are giving inaccurate readings or the measurement system has too much variability, companies may be scrapping good parts or sending defective products to customers.
GAGEpack EZ is powerful gage calibration software that manages a complete history of measurement devices, instruments, and gages. It generates calibration schedules and provides alerts to failed and past due calibrations. In addition, GAGEpack EZ tracks location and status, maintains repair records, and provides an audit trail for traceability.
Even if gages are accurate, a measurement system is only as good as the people using it. Sufficient training, both in gage use and analysis of the measurement system, is critical to success. PQ Systems offers two ways to get more out of your gage management system. A CD-ROM training system that includes Gage Mentor and Measurement Systems Analysis brings this training to the shop floor without disruption of production.
Interactive, step-by-step training can be scheduled at employees’ convenience. Learners can pace the training to their own needs, and exercises throughout the program reinforce learning. Gage Mentor offers a gage challenge at the end of each unit to provide a comprehensive assessment of what each employee has learned, while Measurement Systems Analysis gives an MSA challenge for the same kind of assessment.
Another training option is PQ Systems’ two-day seminar, Gage and R&R Management using GAGEpack EZ. This hands-on seminar teaches how to set up a gage management system using GAGEpack EZ. It covers how to conduct and apply gage repeatability and reproducibility studies and how to comply with ISO/TS 16949-2002 and other quality standards. The next seminar will be held in Dayton, OH on October 5-6.
