SQCpack and sharing data across a network

Question:
We have multiple copies of SQCpack 2000 and would like to have multiple users enter and chart data in one database. Can we do this? How?

Answer:
Multiple users can enter data in the same SQCpack database simultaneously through a network. This would allow a supervisor to review a chart while an operator is entering data.
Note, however, that only one user can enter data in a group at a time. Other users can open the group, see the data, and draw charts, but the group is read-only. When the first user exits the group, another user can enter data. To do this:

  1. Create a data folder on the network.
  2. Ensure that users have access rights to this folder.
  3. Move your database file to this folder or create it in this folder.

Once these steps are complete, users need only click on the Open database icon, , and select the database file from the network.

Performance Note
If your network is backed up daily, automatic backups made by SQCpack 2000 are redundant and take up space. To disable the automatic backup option in the program:

  1. Open the Setup Menu and select Preferences.
  2. Make sure there is no check mark next to the field Automatically back up SQCpack databases on exit.
  3. Click on OK.
