Undaunted by his multiple demonstrations of cluelessness about chart analysis, your quality manager approaches you again this month. He has noticed that the spec limits on part number 6, line 2, are slightly wider than the control limits. The sample size is 4. Since the process has been in control for 18 months, he says, his suggestion is to stop charting the production of part number 6, in order to save time. "The operators need a reward for keeping this thing in control," he says, and suggests having a small party with cake.
